AYE to Andreas' new favicon.

I still think it could be better. The N seems simutaneously too thin and too big. And if nothing else the "eagle" should probably go since it looks nothing whatsoever like an eagle and anything that's not immediately recognizable doesn't fly in pixel art. Looks more like a floating necklace amulet thingy to me anyway.

I could maybe try my own mockup at it.

By all means, make your own. I'd just like a decent favicon.

We also require Ari to install the mod, but that's not hard. The main thing is getting a favicon we can agree on to put there. If someone else would like to do a better one, by all means do so. I never said I was an artist.

How do favicons work anyway? Because they can't just be a php thing: how do you install them?

On a normal html page it's a matter of adding two lines of html which set the 'icon' to be whatever pic you want. On a forum, there's a mod to let you set the favicon in the admin panel (and you have to add those two lines of code to each style too).

Icons 1, 2, and 3 are my minialistic approach to something easily unmistakable - golden N on a field of either blue or white. Personally I think icon 2 is the best of the lot.

Icon 4 was my attempt at doing the island. I tried to keep it as simplistic as possible and change it from pixel art to icon using symmetry but I don't think it survived the transition very well and I don't really like it.

Icon two is my favourite. I don't like the idea of a white background.

Or you just toss it into a file named favicon.ico in the website root and call it a day. That it's possible to do this in the first place is a terrible hack which probably makes the web slower for everyone, and if the method where you add a bit of HTML to every page you send out wasn't available (and originally it wasn't) the whole favicon business would break some pretty fundamental principles of web architecture and make life harder for a lot of people... but hey, if Microsoft wanted to save a few minutes in the lives of people who do control their own domains, I don't mind

I see icon 2 is up already, so I'm calling this one a mission accomplished.

It should be showing up in the browser bar. If you bookmarked the site it will use the old icon since they're saved to the hard drive so you might want to re-bookmark it to get the new one.

Alternatively, Ctrl+F5 should refresh the page fully (like reload everything and purge your cache for that page), which should also fix the problem.
