The Nelaga Territories

The dream lives on...
ImageGarpy the MagiGARP Says: - - - September 4, 2010

Garpity garp garp. Garpy is pretty sure those clouds changed their cycle times somewhat. Garpy misses long sunsets.

Behold! The long-awaited Nelagan Navy has revealed their Nelagan Naval Guide to the Untrained, and it is chuck-filled with ship classifications, naval ranks, battlegroup summaries, naval culture, and more. All shall know of our nation's naval might! Garpy's only complaint is that their mascot is one of those "Sea Dragon" things... as if such a beast could withstand a MagiGARP's deadly Splash attack!

Outside the Territories, Nelaga's first bid for Amity Island failed to be accepted by Shireroth ... er... Eastern Benacia ... well... that red country to the north, prompting a fairly big fiasco in which Nelaga said some unflattering things about... those guys... and then they came here to complain and defend themselves, which turned into a big clustergarp that eventually degenerated into a group therapy session.

A new discussion topic was started to try to create a new treaty by consensus of both nations, and almost unanimously everyone agrees on exactly what was in the first treaty that was rejected. Garpy has to ask what the point of all the hostility and rejection regarding the first treaty was all about! And hey, why is it the Mango-Eagle Treaty Discussion, anyway? Since when did the eagle become our national symbol! Garpy is the one doing all the work up here!

On another nearby island, Istvanistan's government finally collapsed, and a coalition between Nelaga, Gralus, and Babkha are negotiating a joint claim of the territory to serve our mutual interests. But increasing indigenous activity, possibly coupled with official Stormark support, may make this a sticky situation. But not to worry; the Nelagan Navy is already pulling their weight and has dispatched forces to secure our claim. Garpy swims beside them! To war, my fishy comrades! Hey, can I get a little spiked hat here or something?

In other news, Gravball fever (whatever THAT is!) is sweeping the nation, ducks are sneaky mallards and are the main course at Duckfeast in Maraguo, let's all give Jacobus's wife a helping hand, and you're running out of time to claim a bonus for filling our your merit calculations for August!

Gman Russell, the one time Duke of Yardistan of the mighty nation of Shireroth, stood nervously in the wings of the press room. In front of him was a mirror, which reflected back the worried look of a man who hoped he would not let down his new nation. It was a strange feeling. All his life he had lived in a highly segmented society. You had NO rights, and you were not always equal. Here though, everyone had a voice. A say in how things went. It was a new concept, and one that he was not terribly comfortable with.

Not that he had a problem with freedom or rights. He simply had never grown up with it. He sometimes wondered silently if he didn't win this election simply because of his famous ancestor. He had little experience in ruling a direct democracy, and it would be an adjustment getting used to tempered power. His ancestor, the great Gman Pinky, had been a mighty warrior, who gave his all for his nation and his family. The family legend spoke of their exile to Shireroth after Gman Pinky's daughter went mad with daemons. Gman Russell retained his countship in Mirioth, Amity, and So Sara, but he was effectively in exile. His rebellion against the kaiser had not gone well, and the irony of the parallel of a Gman fleeing to foreign lands was not lost on him.

“Brother, it'll be OK. You'll pull this speech off, and become the best president Nelaga has ever known.” He turned around and smiled at his sister, Cerune, who was dressed in her commandant's uniform. Gman fiddled with his own suit, and his sister straightened his tie. “Relax. You'll do just fine.” Gman smiled again. “Thanks. I'm glad your here. Too long have we been apart.”

Cerune smiled and opened her mouth to reply when the stage manager spoke up. “Mr. President, you're on in thirty seconds!” Gman nodded and thanked the man, and made his way to the stage.

The crowd erupted in cheers, with the television cameras rolling, and the photographers snapping pictures. He smiled and waved, and waited for the crowd to settle.

Quote:
Friends, Nelagans, countrymen; lend me your ears. For I have much to say.

December 10th, 2008 is a day that shall forever be enshrined in my heart. It is the day I found out what Harvey was up to. It is the first day I heard the word:

Nelaga

It's a word that stirs emotions in me I have not felt for many, many years. Not since the Flying Islands of Jasonia, has a nation captured my heart like Nelaga has. Though surely those who know me, know that Shireroth is a close second, but it could never replace that part of my heart that longed for the glory days of the FIoJ. On December 23rd, 2008 we established this sacred place. We went public, and announced with one voice that we were Nelagan. We would band together in friendship and love, and seal our pact with hard work and integrity.

We. Are. Nelagan.

We are not just clones of the past, though certainly we are influenced by it. Nor are we dual-citizens of the present, though certainly most of us are. But when we are here in Nelaga, we are not from wherever we are from. We are Nelagan here, and nothing else. It is this patriotism that I call upon, when I ask each and every citizen of Nelaga to dig deep, and contribute your all here. We are the free. We are the brave. It is from our fruitful hands that we will make this nation perennial with fate. When the micronationalists of the future look back on the nations of the past, what will they say of us? That we were a small, side project? That we were the overflow of the creativity that didn't fit in elsewhere?

NO I SAY!

We will be remembered as a nation that shook Micras. That inspired both awe and respect from our contemporaries, and fear from our enemies. They will say that we were a nation that mattered. That those of us who stood here and now, were luminaries of their era. True visionaries who brought creativity and inspiration to the Apollo sector! I aim to capture the old spirit of Jasonia, and breathe it back into even the most jaded of us. This spirit that said we could do anything. Write any story, and make it a gem. Create any technology and be the envy of our neighbors. Generate activity on our forums that would make even the best of us stand up and take notice.

The spirit that brought us together and made us a family.

I pledged that if I won the presidency, I would forsake all other micronational endeavors for this one, and I hold true to that promise. I will finish my storyline with Andreas and Gralus, and finish the civil war in Shireroth, and then I will dedicate all of my creative energy to making Nelaga the superpower it should be. I can't do it alone though. I need your help, I need your ideas.

Let us go forth, and make something of ourselves.

He smiled to himself, satisfied that maybe, just maybe, he would pull this off.

"Gman!" yelled the crowd. "Gman!" Their excitement by the speech was clear. And, someway back from the podium, ignored by those around him, was a micron named Vur'Alm who had, for a moment, dared to dream that he could walk into Nelaga and take the Presidency. Exit polling had suggested it was a close race - made so more by the rumour that Andreas the Wise had privately backed Vur'Alm. Some might have expected Vur'Alm to be upset at the result, but he was grinning broadly. What this nation needed was a President with tenacity, talent, and vibrant energy. And they had got just that in Gman. Vur'Alm would certainly do his best to put in place the reforms and ideas that he had campaigned on; but if he succeeded, they would be remembered as merely part of the Nelagan Golden Age that would come under President Gman. And that was as it should be.

As Vur'Alm joined in the crowd's cries and applause of their new president, someone tapped him on the shoulder. It was a man dressed in black, with dark glasses. He flashed a badge, which, to Vur'Alm's surprise, bore the image of a pink fish. "Since you won't be needed in the President's office, his majesty requests your assistance on a little project. Project Ptia."
Vur'Alm nodded. Andreas had mentioned this might happen. "Alright; but I want to return to Nelaga before the week is out. There are still things I need to do here."
"Oh, you won't be spending long out of Nelaga," the man replied. "At least, not if the Director's have anything to say about it ..."

Fides, the chief of staff, sat back in the wings. He'd survived a whole presidency doing fairly little, and therefore felt a little unnerved when GMan demanded an update on everything that was happening within the government. He felt confident that GMan would be a fine president... And a little light-headed from carrying all those files upstairs.

To quote one of the units in Warcraft III (can't remember which at the moment, probably a Naga):
I am yours to command.
