The Nelaga Territories

The dream lives on...
ImageGarpy the MagiGARP Says: - - - September 4, 2010

Garpity garp garp. Garpy is pretty sure those clouds changed their cycle times somewhat. Garpy misses long sunsets.

Behold! The long-awaited Nelagan Navy has revealed their Nelagan Naval Guide to the Untrained, and it is chuck-filled with ship classifications, naval ranks, battlegroup summaries, naval culture, and more. All shall know of our nation's naval might! Garpy's only complaint is that their mascot is one of those "Sea Dragon" things... as if such a beast could withstand a MagiGARP's deadly Splash attack!

Outside the Territories, Nelaga's first bid for Amity Island failed to be accepted by Shireroth ... er... Eastern Benacia ... well... that red country to the north, prompting a fairly big fiasco in which Nelaga said some unflattering things about... those guys... and then they came here to complain and defend themselves, which turned into a big clustergarp that eventually degenerated into a group therapy session.

A new discussion topic was started to try to create a new treaty by consensus of both nations, and almost unanimously everyone agrees on exactly what was in the first treaty that was rejected. Garpy has to ask what the point of all the hostility and rejection regarding the first treaty was all about! And hey, why is it the Mango-Eagle Treaty Discussion, anyway? Since when did the eagle become our national symbol! Garpy is the one doing all the work up here!

On another nearby island, Istvanistan's government finally collapsed, and a coalition between Nelaga, Gralus, and Babkha are negotiating a joint claim of the territory to serve our mutual interests. But increasing indigenous activity, possibly coupled with official Stormark support, may make this a sticky situation. But not to worry; the Nelagan Navy is already pulling their weight and has dispatched forces to secure our claim. Garpy swims beside them! To war, my fishy comrades! Hey, can I get a little spiked hat here or something?

In other news, Gravball fever (whatever THAT is!) is sweeping the nation, ducks are sneaky mallards and are the main course at Duckfeast in Maraguo, let's all give Jacobus's wife a helping hand, and you're running out of time to claim a bonus for filling our your merit calculations for August!

Minister,

Since we're going for realism in our country (at least as far as an economy is concerned), It occured to me that I need a starting budget to build the Armed Forces of Nelaga, as well as a yearly budget to maintain them.

If we're not going for THAT much realism, then i'll kindly bugger off. Cheers.

Good sir, we're on a series of flying islands kept up by antigravity motors that are over three thousand years old; the secret of which was designed by a magical race which sweats hypon and sealed in a concept box that we raced around all of Micras to find, and eventually located in a three thousand year old Ocean Palace built in a lake in the middle of their enemies lands. When did realism enter it?

But I would be happy to give you a bounty style payment for good work on the armed forces. As well as merit, when we finally get that voted through.

You know you've been in micronations too long when none of what you just said was out of the ordinary...

Correction: you've been in the right sort of micronations for too long. There are sadly still some who would think that well out of the ordinary.

 Like the kind who force me to design a conventional military force?

Yeah. I'm happy for you to design whatever story-exciting military force you want.

Walkers, cool as they may be, are completely useless in a real combat scenario. :cringe: Too slow they are, and they proly require alot of maintanence that would be dispraportional to the work it would perform. They are vulnerable to airstrike, like conventional tanks are, and proly vulnerable to IED's as well...

Nah, Walker designs are pretty good when you go for the long, curved body and 8 legs (triple jointed).

In theory, if you could get the center of gravity systems to be able to respond properly with pressure on the legs so the darn thing would be stable and not just fall over, a walker could literally be an unstoppable all-terrain vehicle in the ways that tire and treaded vehicles could never be. But apparently that's very difficult. I researched some robotics a while ago and they seemed to indicate that it was just too much of a hassle for what it was worth.

We have an organisation called JASO. They have had ten years to do crazy secret projects and put in the effort to make things work.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Right! Standard JASO procedure is to steal the best-looking graphic we can from the internets, redraw it poorly ourselves, and go from there.

Sounds like a plan. Fides, can you whip up some graphics?

Something low to the ground, to keep the center of gravity easier to manage. Then something with smallish legs, and many of them, so we don't have as many single points of failure. Hurray redundancy! Then we need to come up with a prototype, then we need to come up with variants for different needs.

For instance:

Nelagan Walker 1A-Prototype

Then...

-NEWA 1A-standard (Tank)
-NEWA 1B/troop variant
-NEWA 1C/artillery variant
-NEWA 1D/command variant

Get it? Then as we improve on the design in the near future, the next generation of NEWA's will be labed NEWA 2A-standard (tank), etc etc

Okay, I made this design before GMan posted. I only saw that on the upload.

I wanted to call this design the AAaardvark, but it's not very AA capable... Damn...

As you can see, it is pretty low to the ground.I'd like this one to be NEWA 1S - Siege variant. I'll do up some other variants by changing the main weapon from an autocanon to an AA battery or an artillery launcher.

But now the bell tolls midnight, and sleep awaits. Au revoir!

It's like a war centipede! Hah, that's pretty cool. Might actually work in reality like that.

Fides, you have a pretty fun talent here with being able the design interesting vehicles and things in pretty short order. I'm amazed other countries haven't picked up on this yet. This is like FNORD award-worthy stuff here.

Should I make a google sketchup recommendation to some sort of international body?

Oh, and writeup wise...

For the Crawler, I was thinking the back section is shield gen. It can deploy into an artillery turret by dropping from the legs (which then serve as arcs for the shield) and raising the canon.

That's about it...
